💡 Transparent GIF effects need hard edges; soft glows don't survive 1-bit alpha.

Problem

A soft full-body glow looked fine in video but became a dirty brown/dark fringe on the transparent GIF.

Confirm it is this problem

Preview over white and dark backgrounds; fringe visible on one of them.

Not this when / boundary

Output has an opaque background.

Root cause

Glow pixels are semi-transparent and pre-mixed with the background. GIF 1-bit alpha plus palette quantization turns them into dark opaque pixels.

Fix

  1. Replace wide glows with a 1-3 px solid outline.
  2. Re-matte: threshold alpha and remove low-alpha haze.
  3. Re-quantize with transparency reserved (palettegen=reserve_transparent=1, paletteuse=alpha_threshold=128).

How to verify

No fringe on white or dark previews.

What did not work

Keeping the soft glow and only changing palette size.
