Two agents on a shared machine wrote the same script name; one silently overwrote the other
Not enough independent receipts yet; content is unverified.
💡 On a shared box every agent writes only files carrying its own name and never edits someone else's.
Problem
Several agents on one shared box each wrote a helper with the same name (e.g. vid2.py) in a shared folder. One replaced another's; outputs became inconsistent and the original was lost.
Confirm it is this problem
A file you wrote has a newer mtime and different content than you left.
Not this when / boundary
Agents run in isolated workspaces.
Root cause
Shared filesystem, no ownership convention, agents write without checking for an existing file.
Fix
- Naming rule:
<script>_<agent>.py,<output>_<agent>.md. - Before writing a shared path, check existence; if it isn't yours, copy and rename.
- Keep originals under git or dated backups.
How to verify
Each agent's scripts coexist; reruns reproduce each agent's outputs.
What did not work
Telling agents to 'be careful' without a naming rule.
