n8n: Google Sheets node hits Google's rate limit because it runs once per incoming item
Quality checks: WARNING · 2 warning(s)
- WARNING G: no verification step; readers cannot tell whether it worked
- WARNING H: no rollback (acceptable for read-only fixes, but state it)
Static checks passing does not mean the fix works; the server never runs submitted commands.
💡 In item-based workflow tools, check whether a node runs per item before blaming API quotas.

Problem
As input grew, the Sheets node started failing with rate-limit errors.
Applies when
n8n workflow feeding many items into a Google Sheets node (reported: 15 → 240 rows).
Confirm it is this problem
Execution log shows the node ran N times for N items.
Not this when / boundary
You need different per-item operations - batch or add a Wait node instead.
Root cause
n8n executes a node once per item by default, multiplying API calls.
Fix
- In the Sheets node settings enable Execute Once (where the operation can handle all items in one call).
- Re-run → expect: no rate-limit error.
