Static checks passing does not mean the fix works; the server never runs submitted commands.
💡 When an extension breaks right after auto-update, pin the last good version first.

Problem
After an auto-update the Claude Code extension fails to activate and shows this error; reinstalling does not help.
Error (redacted / normalized)
command 'claude-vscode.editor.openLast' not found
Confirm it is this problem
Extension version is 2.1.53 or 2.1.55 and the error appears on activation.
Root cause
Regression in extension versions 2.1.53 and 2.1.55 (reported on Windows; a Cursor user reported the same).
Fix
- Extensions -> Install Another Version -> 2.1.52, then restart the editor → expect: panel opens.
- Or update to 2.1.56+, which a commenter on the issue says fixes this crash.
- (Our suggestion, not from the sources) disable auto-update for this extension until a fixed version is out.
How to verify
The Claude Code panel opens and claude-vscode commands register.
What did not work
Reinstalling the same version.
