💡 Embedded images are snapshots - rebuild the page after any asset change; version linked images.

Problem

After replacing GIF files on disk, the review HTML page kept showing old versions.

Confirm it is this problem

grep -c 'data:image' page.html > 0 and page mtime older than assets.

Not this when / boundary

Server serves stale files (check with curl).

Root cause

Images were embedded as base64 data URIs at build time, so the page is a snapshot; replacing files changes nothing until it is rebuilt. With linked images, browser cache gives the same symptom.

Fix

  1. Check for src="data:image/...;base64,.
  2. Re-run the page generator after replacing files.
  3. For linked images use x.gif?v=<mtime>.

How to verify

Page newer than all assets and shows the new frames.

What did not work

Hard refresh (data URIs don't use cache).
